DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7:30 am. Meeting starts promptly at 8:00am. \nPlease register to attend monthly meetings. Deadline to register is 5pm on Monday before the Thursday meeting. \n  \nSeptember Speakers: \n \nDr. Betsy Giusto\, Economic Development Director\, City of Webster\, Texas \nGiusto was hired as Economic Development Director in August 2000 to create an Economic Development Department for the City of Webster with the mission to grow the City’s commercial tax base and visitor quotient \nEducation: Giusto earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University (1976)\, Master of Arts from University of Houston-Clear Lake (1980)\, Master of Science from University of Houston-Clear Lake (1989)\, and PhD from University of Houston (1997) \nMemorable Accomplishments include creating and developing the Flyway destination district and recruitment of Great Wolf Lodge\, Chicken N Pickle\, Vida Mariscos\, Gauchos Do Sul\, Ale & Ivy\, Ambriza and another full-service hotel. Major recruitment efforts include Academy Sports+Outdoors\, Main Event\, Springhill Suites\, Staybridge Suites\, Topgolf\, Costco\, American Furniture Warehouse\, IKEA\, Exclusive Furniture\, Escalante’s\, Walk-Ons\, Slick City Action Park\, Woody’s Hideaway\, House of Pies\, Ad Astra Rocket Company\, Ari Armaturen\, Olympus\, and three business parks—Magnolia Court Business Park\, Odyssey Park\, and NASA Bypass Business Park. Other major feats include Shops at Baybrook\, whereby a defunct park and ride became a phenomenal\, new retail center and entered the tax rolls for the first time\, and Edgewater\, whereby a defunct power plant\, a brownfield\, was transformed into a vibrant\, award-winning mixed-use development. \nExperience as Economic Development Director: 2000 to Present \nGrow City’s commercial tax base; design and execute business recruitment\, retention\, and expansion programs; develop marketing and tourism programs; foster pro-business\, pro-development mentality; collaborate with internal and external constituents; expand medical and aerospace sectors; design and produce special events; publish City magazine and collateral to enhance brand; create Flyway Project\, Genesis Project; and Gateway Project; propel City forward as leader in region for retail\, dining\, entertainment\, and hospitality; recipient of multiple international economic development awards for public/private partnerships\, winning proposals\, and tourism initiatives. \n \nViridiana Salinas . \n Viri is with Midline the new developer bringing in 2800 new homes to our area. \nFor food allergies or dietary restrictions\, please notify Melodie Billings in advance of the meeting.
